Compassion's child development ministry is like no other. The following distinctive characteristics define our ministry.
Holistic
We minister to children as complete persons. Since their lives include all dimensions of human experience, we address spiritual, social, emotional, psychological, physical, mental, economic and educational issues.
Christ-centred
Our ministry to children exists in response to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). We are devoted to evangelism and discipleship, and present the life-changing gospel to all the children in our programs and encourage them to continue growing in Christ. We share God's love in a way that is culturally relevant. We never coerce children to follow Jesus.
Child-focused
Children are the direct beneficiaries of our ministry. All supplemental community-based programs deliberately and strategically target children and their families.
Church-based
Compassion believes in partnering with local churches. Local churches are catalysts for social change in their communities. They are God-appointed channels for ministry to children and families. Not only do they bring local understanding and resources, but they also offer vision, ownership and a long-term commitment to the child development process.
Partnering with Family and Churches
Partnership is a covenant relationship. When parents and churches partner with us, we work together for a common goal: The welfare of children. We affirm parents in their parental responsibilities. We help churches teach parents key parental skills to meet the demands of a changing world. We seek to empower churches to fulfil their vision for the children in their communities.
Intentional
While children develop regardless of Compassion's involvement, helping them reach their God-given potential is a deliberate process. It requires intentional action, based on an understanding of child development.
Committed to Integrity
We uphold integrity through a three-pronged mandate. Firstly, we commit to use donors' funds in ways consistent with our expressed intentions and adhering to effective child development practices. Secondly, we commit to help children, families and churches by creating relevant child development activities. And thirdly, we assure our partners that we will uphold professional standards, honour our agreement and respond to any breaches in biblical principles.
