Compassion Canada funds special projects, to help communities find solutions to the challenges they face and improve their quality of life. We believe helping communities become self-sustaining always profit the children who live there.

But to ensure sponsorship money is used exclusively for the benefit of sponsored children, we raise the funds for community projects separately.

If God calls you to give beyond your monthly sponsorship, consider a donation to a community project. You may also decide to respond to the current campaign or to give to a special fund.

All our community projects are:

• Locally operated: Local people own and implement the projects. Compassion simply provides funding, expertise, monitoring and evaluation. Our role is to empower the local church in wholistic ministry.
• Sustainable: We support only projects that lead people to recognize their strengths, take control of their resources and work together to meet their needs.
• Fostering independence: To minimize the risk of dependency, we fund projects with low capital costs and high volunteer involvement. Project participants set the goals they want to reach to make the most of the help they receive.
• Focusing on women and children: We pay particular attention to the needs of women. We find that women always share what they learn with their families, thus speeding up the pace of change in their community.
