Money Matters

Our Commitment to You

Compassion is Committed to Integrity
We are committed to no less than 80 percent of donor support going to program initiatives that directly benefit sponsored children. 100 percent of family and child gift gifts go directly to the child and family, as appropriate gifts purchased by project staff in consultation with the family (nothing is withheld for administration).

Independent and internal audits of our work are conducted to ensure donor support is being used efficiently and with integrity. Copies of Compassion Canada’s financial statements are available on request. Email Compassion at info@compassion.ca

Your Commitment to Us

Our Pre-authorized Payment Agreement outline explains your rights, our commitment to you and your responsibilities to us in relation to the arrangements, including where you can go for assistance.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you notify us of changes affecting your payment arrangement. These changes may include:

  • Change of personal information;
  • Change of account details;
  • Altering the payment schedule;
  • Stopping an individual donation;
  • Suspending the pre-authorized withdrawal.

If you want to make changes to your donation, contact us toll free at 1-800-563-5437 at least five (5) business days prior to the next withdrawal date.

If you are having financial difficulties, we may have ways to help you. Children are disadvantaged when we fail to hear from sponsors who cease their support, or who move without telling us.

Contact Compassion Canada by phone toll free at 1-800-563-5437 (during EST business hours), or email info@compassion.ca.

    Sending Gifts

    We encourage you to send your sponsored child Birthday and Christmas monetary gifts. You may also wish to give gifts at other times, for the child's family, or to mark their graduation.

    Unfortunately parcels cannot be sent overseas due to possible theft, high custom charges and postage costs.

    All gifts are purchased in your child's community by our project staff who will choose gifts appropriate to the child's or family's needs.

    Suggested gift amounts are:

    To help you make positive gifts that will meet needs, Compassion has set the following limits:

    • Birthday Gift: A gift of $15 to $40 CDN, once per year.
      Staff and parents assist the child in choosing age appropriate gifts to bring some joy and fulfill some needs at this special time of year.
    • General Child Gift: A gift of $15 to $40 CDN, once per year.
      Child gifts are used to meet specific needs of your sponsored child, as identified by the parents and project staff.
    • Family Gift: A gift of $40 to $450 CDN once per year. Family gifts are used to meet specific needs of the whole family, including your sponsored child’s siblings. As with all gifts, purchases are made with the counsel of the project staff to ensure appropriate items are chosen.
    • Project Gift: A gift of $50 to $1,200 CDN once per year. Project gifts supply items over and above regular sponsorship funding that would accentuate the experience for all children in a project.
    • Graduation Gift: A one-time gift of $25 to $450 CDN. A graduation gift is a token of love that allows your sponsored child to know you are proud of him or her for accomplishing so much.
    • Christmas Gift Fund: We suggest a gift of $25 or more per sponsored child. At Christmas time we pool all monies received into our Christmas Gift Fund, to ensure that all children in our programs worldwide receive a gift and feel valued.

    Maximum gift amounts have been set to ensure accurate reporting and accountability of funds, and to provide a measure of equality between sponsored children and families, reducing potential jealousy or theft.

    You can include these gifts with your automatic payments. Child gifts over $40 will be considered a family gift, unless specifically designated as a final graduation gift.
