Prayer

Why pray?

Prayer is one of the most effective and vital things Compassion sponsors can do in our fight against injustice.

Poverty, abuse, injustice and exploitation are essentially spiritual problems. We need to be aware that we are also fighting a spiritual battle.

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms ..." Ephesians 6:12 (NIV)

Prayer can help to end the cycle of poverty, abuse and exploitation.

Therefore, commit to praying for your sponsored child. You can sign up to become a Compassion Prayer Partner, check out our prayer of the day devotional, start a prayer group with your friends and family or connect with our Children Praying for Children campaign and resource.

How do I Get Involved?

  • Become a Prayer Partner Today. We’ll send you our Prayer of the Day email, highlighting country information where Compassion works as well as the needs facing children. Commit to praying regularly for Compassion’s ministry of helping children living in desperate poverty.
  • Ask for a free Children Praying for Children Kit. Our children’s ministry resource contains material covering the six main needs facing children in poverty: Truth (the gospel), Food, Water, Shelter, Education and Love.
  • Search Compassion’s website. Learn more about the acute issues facing children today and pray! Ask God how you can make an eternal difference in the life of a child.
Becoming a Compassion Prayer Partner only requires a willing heart.

Compassion Prayer Partners Network

Compassion’s Prayer Partner Network is integral in strengthening the ministry of Compassion worldwide and is made up of passionate Compassion supporters from all backgrounds with a desire to partner with us in prayer.

God cares deeply for his people and the world he created - he hates to see his children living in poverty, being exploited and abused. God hears those who cry out to him day and night. Jesus tells us "He will see that they get justice, and quickly." Therefore, we seek to serve God with honour and integrity in all that we do including prayer.

Become a Prayer Partner, and commit to praying regularly for Compassion’s ministry of helping children at risk. Prayer is one of the greatest ways you can help your sponsored child is to pray for them regularly: pray for their good health, safety and education, and pray that they are loved and well cared for. You can also pray for Compassion’s project staff who work on the frontline of the child development programs – that they have the wisdom to assess your sponsored child’s personal situation and know how best to help them.
