Prayer of the Day

November 21, 2008 - Pray that children will honour their parents. 'Honour your father and mother... so that you may live long and that it may go well with you.' Deuteronomy 5:16


Your prayers have an eternal impact for the health, safety, education and spiritual development of your child. Sponsored children are greatly encouraged to hear that their sponsors are praying for them. Remember that your sponsored child most likely prays for you, too.

The following prayers for the month of November are directed towards the children in Compassion’s care around the world. If you are a sponsor, you may want to personalize them for your sponsored child; or there may be a country that you will focus on. Our prayers this month will be a blessing to the over 1 million Compassion children in over 5,000 projects around the globe.


Day 1Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. Close to half the population of Guatemala is under 18. Pray for God’s blessing upon Compassion’s ministry to the children of Guatemala – they are the hope and investment for its future. Pray that God would strengthen our Compassion projects and leaders there.
Day 2Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.  John 1:12  With over 50% of population being Muslim in Burkina Faso, Compassion has an opportunity to come alongside evangelical churches in this country in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Pray for the children and the extended families in Compassion’s program to receive Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. 
Day 3 Psalm 27:5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.  We thank the Lord for his promise of protection and help and ask for this protection for the children in Haiti who are exposed to violence and exploitation.
Day 4 Isaiah 54:2 Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. Pray for Compassion Peru to be granted wisdom from God and the right strategies to make a lasting difference in their country.
Day 5 1 Samuel 2:8a "He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap To make them sit with nobles, And inherit a seat of honour. It is estimated that Rwanda has about 40,000 child-headed households, this mainly due to the genocide in 1994. Pray for Compassion's ministry among these precious children.
Day 6 John 10:10b I have come that they may have life and have it to the full. Pray for Compassion’s Complementary Interventions – programs which are enhancing our core program of child development by tackling additional concerns such as clean water, AIDs education, and capacity building for families. 
Day 7 Amos 5:24 But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never failing stream.  Pray for the protection of innocent children in Thailand who are at risk of being sold into prostitution and the drug industry.  Pray for the church in Thailand to be a strong force of justice on behalf of all the children who are affected by poverty and exploitation.
Day 8Isaiah 61:1 He has sent me bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness the prisoners.  Pray for the Compassion workers in Brazil as they teach children to walk in God's ways. Pray for the partnership with Compassion and the church to remain strong as they together bring spiritual hope to their nation.
Day 9 Psalm 94:18 When I said, my foot is slipping, your love O Lord supported me. Pray for the safety of our Compassion staff, church partners and children in the volatile places of Colombia. Pray for Compassion sponsors of children in Colombia, as they act as extended family to children living in poverty. Pray they will be positive role models, demonstrating God's hope and strength.
Day 10 Zechariah 2:8 For whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye. Praise God for the committed and loving Compassion staff around the world ministering to the children. Pray for them to received renewed encouragement and strength in their area of ministry.
Day 11Psalm 32:8 I will instruct and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel and watch over you. Pray about the limited access to childhood education in Nicaragua and ask God to grant wisdom to the government so that they can address this issue with solutions.
Day 12 Matthew 6:11 Give us today our daily bread. In monsoon season, Compassion Bangladesh is concerned about the possible destruction of the rice crop, which will worsen the already food shortage situation. Please pray for God's provision and mercy in Bangladesh. Pray for Country Director of Bangladesh, Kajal Sengupta and his staff as they oversee Compassion’s program in Bangladesh.
Day 13Psalm 140:12 I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. We remember in prayer today the abused children, the abandoned, and the ones who live in extremely poor and desperate situations in Bolivia.
Day 14Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Pray for the health of children in Uganda living in homes with no running water or adequate sanitation. Pray for hope to remain alive in their hearts for their future.
Day 15 Psalm 31:3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. Pray for guidance and wisdom from God as Compassion Honduras opens new child development centers to see more children in their nation receive holistic care.
Day 16Isaiah 40:11 He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. Pray for the thousands of single-parent families struggling to survive in the Dominican Republic.
Day 17Nahum 1:7 The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him. Earlier this spring, the rainy season produced floods in the coastal regions of Ecuador. The crisis affected 7,695 Compassion-assisted children in 36 Compassion projects. Houses were flooded and diseases such as rotavirus and dengue fever affected the children.  Pray for the emotional recovery of families all over the coastal region, especially for those who lost their houses and belongings
Day 18 Psalm 147:10-11 His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of a man; the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. Pray for strength and grace for the church partners in El Salvador as they provide for the needs of children while also training and equipping the parents.
Day 19Matthew 18:5 And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. Pray for more advocacy action in the area of children's rights in Ethiopia, so that all the population might understand and respect the integrity of each child.
Day 20Job 16:19 Even now my witness is in heaven; my advocate is on high. Pray for the thousands of orphans living in Ghana - that they will have caregivers and their caregivers will have the resources to meet the holistic needs of these children.
Day 211 John 3:1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! While gender discrimination may seem like an outdated concept in developed countries, in India, it is a daily reality.  Pray for the daughters who are abandoned by their families — that they will know the love of positive role models and friends within Compassion's ministry and the church.
Day 22 Isaiah 40:31 But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. We pray that the Compassion children of Tanzania will always have hope despite their circumstances.  May this future generation be agents of change and become strong men and women of God.
Day 23Isaiah 40:11He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. There is a Filipino saying - a woman giving birth has her one foot in the grave. Approximately 11 women in the Philippines die every day during or just after childbirth.  Pray that Compassion's Child Survival Program would flourish and grow in the Philippines so that more expecting mothers will receive the proper care they need to deliver their babies safely.
Day 242 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. Pray today for our LDP students whose home situations are difficult and who carry burdens for their family.  Pray that they would understand and know how much God cares for their family and that they would have renewed trust and faith for the future.
Day 25Titus 2:11For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Militant Islamic groups have scarred Indonesia's landscape in recent times with terrorist attacks and tensions, causing many to live in fear and uncertainty. In some parts of the country, Islamic law is being enforced, despite it being a secular nation. Please pray for Compassion projects as they seek to work with children and families of all faiths in Indonesia.
Day 26Psalm 68:5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. There are over 60,000 children living on the streets of Nairobi, Kenya. Father, your word says that you are a Father to the fatherless and a defender of orphans. Watch over these vulnerable ones and protect them by the power of your name
Day 271 Peter 5:10  And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. We pray for the encouragement and strengthening of our Compassion Mexico staff who work on the frontlines with children at risk.
Day 28Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Overcrowding and a lack of funding for teachers severely limit access to proper education in our newest country, Togo.  Pray for Compassion’s beginnings in this nation and for strong relationship with the local church.
Day 29 Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Please pray for Compassion's Leadership Development Program (LDP) around the world, that many more youth in Compassion's program will be empowered to dream, hope and become all that God has created them to be.
Day 30Psalm 69:33 The Lord hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. Pray that more Christians across Canada will respond to God's call to be a missionary to a child in poverty and be His hands extended to the need
