| July 01 | 1 Timothy 2:1-4 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. Today is Canada Day. As you celebrate with family and friends, please take a minute to pray for our country and its leader, the Prime Minister, the Premiers and every office large or small. We ask that they become sympathetic to the cause of the gospel and favor the promotion of righteousness. |
| July 02 | 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. Pray for those leading the Urgent Needs area of Compassion's ministry - that they would be guided by the Lord and have His insight and wisdom. |
| July 03 | Psalm 121:7-8 The LORD will keep you from all harm - he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Please pray for God's protection for the children as the crime rate in Ecuador has grown. Pray for the Lord to transform hearts. |
| July 04 | Colossians 4:5-6 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Please pray for mothers and fathers who will not register their children in the Compassion-assisted child development centres in Togo because of religious differences. Pray the Lord will use the staff to soften the hearts of the families and open their eyes to the grace of the Lord. |
| July 05 | Five out of 10 students who enter primary school in urban areas complete primary school, as opposed to only two out of 10 in rural areas. Some 60 per cent of the school age population live in rural areas, but only 24.5 per cent of the schools are in the rural areas. Pray for a change in this extremely important area of society so that more Guatemalan children will receive an education and thus be breaking the cycle of poverty in their generation. |
| July 06 | Timothy 1: 15-16 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. Political instability, violent crime and extreme poverty are some of the issues facing Haiti; the poorest nation in the Caribbean, and the western hemisphere. More than half the 9 million population earn less than 50 pence a day. Pray today for our Compassion family in Haiti as they bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to this vulnerable nation. |
| July 07 | Honduras maintains an unemployment rate of 28 percent, and two-thirds of its citizens live below the poverty line. The instability the country is currently experiencing is not rooted in politics - it is social. It is hopelessness and destitution. Pray that God opens the eyes of Honduras' government leaders so that they make the country a more secure place to live. Pray for our Compassion staff there as they continue to serve the children at our Compassion child development centres in the middle of this climate. |
| July 08 | 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Please pray that wise and strategic decisions will be made at the government level in India to help the poor and not marginalize them. Please pray that more of India's children will come to know their value through Christ. May future generations know a country that is based on equality and opportunity for all. |

| July 10 | Proverbs 4:11 I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. Please pray for Compassion staff and church pastors in El Salvador as they implement income-generating activities to secure more food for children and families. Pray for the favour of the Lord to be over their efforts. |
| July 11 | Eph 5:1-2 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Pray for children in our Compassion projects who have suffered abuse; pray the Lord will heal and restore them through the lives of believers. |
| July 12 | Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air…are you not much more valuable than them? Tropical Storm Agatha recently caused torrential rains throughout Central American including Guatemala and El Salvador. Rivers have overflowed, roads are blocked by mudslides and building have been damaged. People have been evacuated from their homes. While the rains have stopped, more sotms are imminent. Please pray for those in Guatemala and El Salvador who are affected by the storm. Pray that God protects our children and families from harm and provides for those who lost homes or belongings. Also pray that the coming storms do not cause additional damage. |
| July 13 | 2 Samuel 24:25 God was moved by the prayers and that was the end of the disaster. After more than two months of political demonstrations and violence in Bangkok, Thailand, peace has finally returned to the region. Demonstrators have disbanded, the government curfew has been lifted and businesses have reopened. The three child development centers that were in the affected region are operating normally and many families who fled during the unrest have returned home. Please join us in praising God that no Compassion assisted children were injured or killed in the unrest. Pray for the peace of Thailand and for wisdom for those in leadership. |
| July 14 | Psalm 91:11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. Every day, around the globe, some of our Compassion field staff travel throughout their countries, visiting various child development centres, making contact with the staff and volunteers of these projects. Please pray today for the safety of all Compassion staff who must travel to accomplish their work. |
| July 15 | 1 John 2:13 I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father. Compassion Tanzania began registering children into its projects in July 1999. Currently, more than 34,000 children are assisted at 147 church-based projects. Pray for Tanzania's children as they become teenagers and face the challenges that come in their lives as they change. Pray that they would be strong, stay in school, and would avoid the trouble of drugs, prostitution and theft. |
| July 16 | Eph 3:20-21 Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Compassion Sunday is a powerful opportunity for God to use Compassion sponsors to share His deep love for children – and show how each of us can be a part of ending poverty in the life of one child by sponsoring with Compassion. This year’s official date is September 26th. Please pray we will see many churches engage with Compassion over the next few months and that we will see many children sponsored on September 26th. |
| July 17 | 1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Three days of heavy rains have caused flooding in Punjab and in Ambala City in Haryana, India. Homes in both areas have been flooded, families have lost all their belongings, and many people are without food and clean water. Many families are staying with family, neighbours or in temporary shelters. Please pray for the children, staff and families in the affected areas. Pray that God stops the rain and the flooding subsides quickly. Pray also that God would comfort them and provide for their needs.. |

Please pray for the family and friends of those who lost their lives in these bombings. Pray for the perpetrators that they would be brought to justice and that no further violence would occur. |
| July 19 | Joshua 1:5 No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Pray for protection for the children in the Dominican Republic from the increase in violence, sexual abuse, accidents, drugs and family tragedies. Child labour is common in Brazil (over 7 million), depriving vulnerable children at an early age from important development physically, emotionally and spiritually. Pray today for God's intervention in this weak area of Brazil's society; that there would be justice for these children who have no rights to speak for themselves. |
| July 23 | Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. Colombia also has a reputation for being possibly one of the most violent countries in the world. Leftist guerrilla movements and the drug trafficking dominate many areas. Let us pray for Colombia's future and for God's people to remain faithful. |
| July 24 | Psalm 11:17,18 You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed.
One of poverty's damaging messages is you don't matter" or "you can't". Compassion's challenge is to impact children while they still hope and dream. Pray today that our heavenly Father would send his message of love and mercy to the children in Compassion's ministry through the staff; that their lives would be anointed with His power and grace to be an influence and His hand extended. |
| July 25 | Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
A slum fire in Sao Paulo, Brazil has left 250 people homeless and destroyed more than 100 houses. Compassion has one child development center the affected area. An early morning apartment building file in Sampaloc, Manila destroyed many homes. 19 Compassion-assisted children and six mothers in the Child Survival Program (CSP) lived in the building. The affected families are staying in a nearby covered basketball court and abandoned building. The church partner is providing the affected families with food and other relief supplies. | July 29 | Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. The children in Burkina Faso are deprived of even the most basic education and health care. More than half are forced to work, many in exploitative situations, suffering physical and sexual abuse. In fact, Burkina Faso is a source, transit and destination country for internationally trafficked children who are sold into slavery. Pray for this generation of children in Burkina Faso to overcome the effects of poverty and be spiritually strong. |

| July 31 | Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
HIV/AIDS has become a silent disaster most refuse to recognize. Churches shy away from dealing with the desperate moral and social crisis of this national calamity. Pray that Compassion would be able to serve in this area, helping to educate and unite the church of Kenya to face this issue. |
Compassion's Commitment to Prayer
Your prayers have an eternal impact for the health, safety, education and spiritual development of your child. Sponsored children are greatly encouraged to hear that their sponsors are praying for them. Remember that your sponsored child most likely prays for you, too.
Compassion is ministering to over one million children in 25 countries of the world. There are about 160,000 children at any given time waiting for a sponsor. Our prayer is that even in these times of economic uncertainty, sponsors would stay steadfast in their commitment to help a child in poverty; and that even more people would begin reaching out to help the “least of these” in their trouble.
Become a Compassion Sponsor. Help a child at risk become a healthy and fulfilled adult, experience God's love, hear and respond to the Gospel – and bring about lasting change to their families and communities. Sponsor a child today!
