Children’s ministry launch

Funding required: $9,170

This project will help: 200 children in Masa, Uganda

Child development centre impacted: UG1019, Masa Child and Youth Development Centre

Children in Masa, Uganda—and particularly girls—grow up facing immense challenges. Family breakdown, alcohol abuse and domestic violence are common problems, and many mothers are abandoned to raise their children alone. Early marriage and teenage pregnancies cause girls to drop out of school. Without education, they can’t get good jobs to help support their families. Children often go neglected, and many are malnourished.

Many children can’t go to school as their parents can’t afford the cost of the fees or supplies. They also lack access to good medical care, and the mortality rate for expectant mothers is very high. Without proper education, family support, healthcare and the opportunity to learn job skills, these children will grow up repeating the cycle of poverty.

But the local church in Masa has a deep desire to reach out to their community with the transforming gospel of Christ and respond to some of the most pressing needs of children.

By opening a child development centre, children will have access to health care. They will receive supplementary food as needed. They will have the opportunity to go to school and receive vocational training. They will receive age-appropriate Christian teaching and discipleship, as well as education on important topics like health, hygiene and how to form healthy relationships. And they will also receive personal attention, guidance and love from caring Christian community members.

Real and lasting change happens when children are developed to become the adults who will create change in their community. In Compassion’s program, as children learn they are loved, they begin to develop hope for their future, and they realize that God wants to use them to help others. And these children grow up to be givers and leaders in their community.

Help children build a new future free from poverty and full of promise by launching a holistic children’s ministry!
