Children’s ministry launch

Funding required: $9,300

This project will help: 1100 children in Gandangbatu, Indonesia

Child development centre: ID0807, Efata Gandangbatu Child Development Centre

In Gandangbatu, Indonesia, children and young people are growing up without hope for the future. Many people are unemployed, while others are scraping together a meagre living as day labourers. Those who are farming the land produce barely enough to feed their families day by day, with nothing leftover to sell. The area lacks vocational training opportunities, and local schools are not equipped to provide children with an adequate education.

Children also lack access to health care, as there is only one doctor available for the entire district. Many suffer from acute respiratory and gastrointestinal problems, and they have never received preventive health or hygiene education. Without the chance to learn new skills or get the care and attention they need, children will grow up to repeat the pattern of their parents.

But the local church in Gandangbatu has a deep desire to reach out to their community with the transforming gospel of Christ and respond to some of the most pressing needs of children.

By opening a child development centre, children will have access to health care. They will receive supplementary food as needed. They will have the opportunity to go to school and receive vocational training. They will receive age-appropriate Christian teaching and discipleship, as well as education on important topics like health, hygiene and how to form healthy relationships. And they will also receive personal attention, guidance and love from caring Christian community members.

Real and lasting change happens when children are developed to become the adults who will create change in their community. In Compassion’s program, children learn they are loved, they begin to develop hope for their future, and they realize that God wants to use them to help others. And these children grow up to be givers and leaders in their community.

Help children build a new future free from poverty and full of promise by launching a holistic children’s ministry!
