This project will help: 50 caregivers and their families
Estimated completion date: January 2021
Right now, 50 caregivers in Tanzania need our help. Nearly 90 per cent of these caregivers are single moms who work tirelessly to take care of their children. But every day, they come up short—barely making enough to survive.
All 50 of these hardworking women run small businesses like selling food and homemade soap. They earn about $3 a day, which isn’t even enough to feed their children two meals a day. Most of these families go without health care. In addition, siblings who aren’t registered in Compassion’s program are often forced to drop out of school because their caregivers can’t afford the fees.
Even though these moms give their small businesses their very best, competition is tight. And it’s nearly impossible to obtain loans to expand their businesses. Financiers in their community require expensive collateral.
Staff members at the Moravian Compassion centre saw how much these families were struggling, so they met with caregivers to create a solution. Caregivers agreed that what they really need are business development classes taught by experts. Centre staff members loved this idea, but they knew that the centre’s budget couldn’t possibly cover this life-changing initiative without extra support.
You can empower 50 women to earn a stable income and care for their children! Your gift will help caregivers attend business development training taught by experts. These classes will teach caregivers about record keeping, savings, packaging and branding. You’ll also provide life-skills training, mentoring and financial support to expand their businesses. It’s projected that this initiative will help caregivers nearly double their income. They’ll finally be able to offer their children nutritious meals, educational opportunities and health care! Caregivers will also be encouraged to create joint savings accounts for future needs and small loans. As these savings accounts grow over time, more caregivers will receive assistance. Your gift will bring hope for years to come!
