This Exposure Trip is an exciting opportunity for you to see Compassion’s work firsthand and visit your sponsored child, while having a safe, yet rich, cultural experience. On this trip, we will visit several Compassion centres similar to the one your child attends, worship together with one of our local church partners, play games with lots of children and enjoy a local tourist attraction. We’ll journey into the heart of these communities – the homes – where you will learn what poverty looks like in the developing world and how your partnership with Compassion not only benefits your sponsored child, but that child’s entire family and community as well.

Best of all, you will have the opportunity to meet your sponsored child and spend a day together making unforgettable memories!

Join us on this Compassion Exposure Trip to Rwanda and see for yourself how your sponsorship is impacting your child’s life. We promise, when you return from this experience, you will never look at the world the same way!

Trip itinerary

Departure Travel to the country we are visiting

Our group will meet at the departure gate at the airport of our departure city. Here, you will meet your Compassion Trip Leader/s. Together, we will board the flight to begin our experience together! We will be met at the airport by staff from the Compassion National Office, who will escort us to our hotel and help us check in.

Office visit

If possible, we will have an opportunity to visit the country’s National Office. We will enjoy a tour and look at how the ministry operates, ensuring that assisted children receive the best benefits possible. A brief orientation of the country and how Compassion works here will be helpful to give us a good foundation. It will also be inspiring to meet the hard-working men and women who make it happen. Often times we may even meet staff who were formerly sponsored children.

Survival program

The Survival Program provides pregnant women and mothers of babies through age 1 with resources and training they need to ensure that their little ones survive and thrive during the first days and months of life. We will have an opportunity to meet some moms and their babies and learn how the program has impacted their lives.

Youth development program

The Youth Development Program works with sponsored teens, giving them the life and vocational skills that enable them to “graduate” from Compassion as responsible, self-sufficient young adults. We learn about how this program is making a difference.

Child sponsorship program

We will have an opportunity to visit a number of Compassion centres, where the staff will share the details about the Child Sponsorship Program, including how financial and child records are kept. We will learn about the Compassion curriculum, adapted to the country’s context, develops children in all facets of life; physical, educational, relational and spiritual. We will also have the opportunity to visit some of the children’s homes for a firsthand understanding of the obstacles they face because of poverty. It will be inspiring to hear from caregivers about the tremendous difference Compassion makes, not just for their sponsored child but for the entire family.

During these days, we will minister God’s love to the children by interacting and playing with them. They will be thrilled to meet us, and their laughter, smiles and hugs will be some of our favourite memories of this trip.

Complementary interventions program (CIV)

Because the needs of the children and families we serve often are outside the coverage of regular sponsorship benefits, the CIV fills this important gap! We might see a clean water project, or a new vocational training center for teens, or an income-generation program for caregivers—made possible by this important program that goes above and beyond sponsorship.

Sponsor/child fun day

Today will no doubt be the highlight of your trip! You will meet your child(ren) at a local recreation area and spend the day together playing, taking photos, exchanging gifts and getting to know each other in a personal way. Although your time will fly be, the experiences you have today will forever change both of you!

Sightseeing/shopping

Our country hosts are proud of the country they call home. This is an opportunity for us to experience some time of sightseeing and shopping. We will learn about the country from a different perspective and enjoy visiting local artisan shops to purchase unique handcrafted souvenirs and gifts for family and friends back home.

Returning home

It will seem like we have just arrived in the country when we have to return to the airport for our flight home. We will arrive in plenty of time to catch flight home, where family and friends will be eager to hear our stories of how God is working through Compassion — one child at a time!
