Step Into My Shoes Uganda and Step Into My Shoes Philippines are flexible, immersive digital experiences and devotionals for families, churches and groups.
For families: In Step Into My Shoes Uganda, we’ll step into the shoes of Ugandan Pastor Tom, his wife Nancy and their children, joining them on a seven-step journey that follows Jesus’ footsteps in caring for those in need. This experience invites us to discover what it means to “live from enough” and choose one practical way to invest in children locally or globally.
For churches/groups: In Step Into My Shoes Philippines, we’ll follow the lives of children from the Philippines and embark on a journey to discover what it means to be “called”—to follow Jesus, to be the Church and to care for those God cares about. Available as a 4-session experience for children (1-hour each) or a 90-minute experience for children and parent together, both experiences invite us to see God’s heart for children and embrace the call to love and serve the “least of these.”
The Bible says in Romans 13 that all the commandments are summed up in the Great Commandment: to love our neighbour as ourselves. But how do we love our neighbours if we’ve not yet met them? Step Into My Shoes lets families, churches and groups walk in the shoes of our global neighbours, following Jesus’ footsteps by responding to His call to care for children and the poor.
It’s often difficult for children younger than 12 to go on a mission trip. And yet, the decade from the ages 4 to 14 is when 71 per cent of kids make the decision to follow Jesus. One of the most powerful ways kids develop and keep their faith is when they serve. Step Into My Shoes equips families, churches and groups with a resource that can awaken a child’s heart for serving, both locally and globally.
While parents and ministry leaders want to teach kids about God, gratitude and loving others, sometimes kids hear it best by experiencing things themselves. Parents, ministry leaders and kids who have experienced Step Into My Shoes say it leaves them convinced of their own physical and spiritual blessings—and revved up to share the love.
Sponsoring a child with Compassion is an effective way to fight poverty, as it gives children the opportunity to develop in body, mind, soul and spirit. However, our motivation and the heart of our impact runs deeper than sponsorship. Compassion’s mission is to respond to the Great Commission by releasing all children from poverty—that takes all of us, working together, helping the children God calls us to care for both locally and globally.
Compassion partners with over 8,600 local churches in 29 nations in Africa, Asia and Latin America and cares for nearly 2.4 million children—but poverty is much bigger. About 333 million children globally live in extreme poverty—they need the whole Church to live out Jesus’ commands to care spiritually and physically for the least of these. When we do so, we fulfill both the Great Commission and the Great Commandment.
