December 2019

Kids dressed as characters from the nativity scene stand together and smile at the camera

Stories weave their way through time. Shared around tables, at bedtime, over hot cups of coffee and in over-stuffed armchairs. Tucked in book pages, the papery voices of grandfathers, and the script of the children’s Christmas play.

    We gather around stories.

Each December we rustle through the pages of our Bibles and the dog-eared places of our hearts to revisit the precious Christmas story. Then we beckon others “Come, gather ‘round!”

When a story is alive in our hearts, we cannot help but invite others into its narrative.

    We are all storytellers.

What stories do we tell? We tell of Emmanuel, God born to us in a manger. We tell of the Messiah, God delivering us upon a Cross. We tell of a King ascended to a throne and the kingdom of peace He established. Our voices echo, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men,” along with storytellers through the ages.

The kingdom of peace comes through those who share a story, His story. It comes to those who receive the story, His story.

Share the story of a King ascended.

Glory to God in the Highest.

Share the story of Emmanuel, God with us.

    And on earth peace.

Share the story of the Messiah and ones He came to save.

    Good will toward men.

This Christmas season, we can establish the kingdom of peace by telling stories.

Maybe you shared Lola’s story over coffee with a friend. Maybe your shared Henry’s story on your social media. Maybe you shared Patience’s story at your life-group on Wednesday night.

You give voice to the value of one. You become a storyteller for those whose stories need to be told.

The kingdom of peace comes through those who share a story, His story.

It comes to those who take part in the story, His story.

“They tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, so that all people may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.” Psalm 145:11-12

    Sharing His story together,
