It’s officially the dead of winter here in Canada. If you’re anything like me, you’re ready for the sun to come closer again.

Unfortunately, unless you’re headed to visit your Compassion child anytime soon, we can’t whisk you off anywhere sunny. But we can take you on a virtual trip to the beautiful beaches where some of the kids in Compassion’s programs live and play!

Here are seven stunning photos of the beach to help you escape the cold—or just tide you over until summer.

The Philippines

Two teen girls walking on a beach.

These girls’ walk to their Compassion centre at a local church includes a stroll on the beach.

Ecuador

A boy kicks a soccer ball on a beach.

Thanks to a global movement of support for Steven after a traumatic event in his life, he is healing and thriving physically, psychologically and emotionally! Today, he’s able to play soccer on this local beach on the Pacific coast of Ecuador, something that was unimaginable for him just two years ago.

Indonesia

Four kids hold garbage bags while wading into the shore of a beach.

These Compassion-sponsored youth are working to clean the gorgeous beaches in their community. “If we are careless about our own surroundings, who will care for them? It must start with us. In the Bible, God commands us to be faithful over a few things and He will make us rulers over many things,” says Aniek, a Compassion alumna who leads this initiative.

Brazil

Two young girls play with a pink bucket in the sand at the beach.

Ryany and Kissia’s dream was to see the ocean—something they had never done despite just living a couple hours from the beach. Their Compassion centre made their dream come true!

Kenya

A young woman runs along the shore of a beach.

Salama runs along the peaceful shores of the beach on the coast of Kenya. There was a time when Salama’s only vision for the future was working in a quarry like her mother, earning just cents for her work. But because of her time in Compassion’s program and the support of her sponsor, Salama now dreams of becoming a teacher.

Ecuador

A young boy and girl pick up garbage from the beach.

In Ecuador, a Compassion centre near the coast commits a day of each month to clear their community’s beaches of plastic waste, to keep them sandy and beautiful. “In church we learned that we must take care of God’s creation, that we must be good stewards of what God has given us, so we like to care for and clean the sea,” says Alejandra, one of the Compassion-sponsored youth taking part in the initiative.

Indonesia

These Compassion-sponsored children from a remote island in Indonesia are jumping for joy on the beach near their homes where they often play and swim.

Feeling warmer? We hope so! It’s just a few more weeks until we see more sunshine!

Until then, what’s something you could do to brighten someone else’s day?
