Host a Compassion Sunday event to advocate for children and give your church family a chance to live out their faith by sponsoring a child experiencing poverty.

What is Compassion Sunday

What is Compassion Sunday? - On Compassion Sunday, people just like you all over Canada are equipped and empowered to share their passion for seeing children released from poverty in Jesus’ name. During a Compassion Sunday event, a host will generally:

  • Give an announcement or short testimony about their Compassion sponsorship experience - your “why” behind why you sponsor with Compassion.
  • Share a short video highlighting the hope a sponsor can bring to a child’s life.
  • Invite members of the congregation to sponsor a child.

Can I host a Compassion Sunday event outside my church?

While we encourage you to host in your home church, we understand that’s not always possible. Compassion Sunday also works well in Bible studies, small groups, sports teams, book clubs, workplaces, Sunday school classes, classrooms, or any other gathering.

How many children should I try to get sponsored?

As many as you can! Of course, it depends on the size of your church, but we’ve found that on average, three to five children get sponsored at an event. The main thing to remember is to leave all the results up to God. Do your best and trust him to work.

My church is meeting virtually. Can I still host a Compassion Sunday event?

Yes! Simply email us at compsunday@compassion.ca. We look forward to working with you to customize your event to meet the needs of your church.
