Helping moms & babies at ME0995
You are changing the lives of moms and babies at the Santa Ana Tzacuala Survival Program. Here’s how.
The Need
Of the 5.2 million children who die around the world each year, 75 per cent die in the first year of life. Babies are at risk of death due to premature birth complications, complications during childbirth, infections, pneumonia and diarrhea. But this is preventable. With training and support, moms in poverty can be empowered to raise healthy and happy babies.
Our Response
Critical care
Your support helps secure access to pre- and postnatal care, skilled birth attendants and medical intervention when necessary.
Home-based care
Mothers are visited in their homes monthly by a Survival specialist, who offers education in prenatal care and early child-rearing as well as one-on-one biblical mentoring.
Group-based learning
At these church-based activities, moms learn skills to earn an income and gain vital knowledge including basic literacy, the importance of breastfeeding and how to prevent malnutrition and disease. These groups combat isolation through a supportive community of mothers who, together, learn about the God who loves them.

Activities
Physical health: Medical staff tracked babies’ height and weight to monitor their growth. Moms and their babies attended routine medical checkups to assess for signs of illness and treat minor illnesses with medications. Vitamins were given to babies to boost their immune systems and help prevent illnesses. Moms also received medical care during and after their pregnancies.
Gifts and provisions: Moms were grateful to receive thermal baby clothing and hats for winter as well as other baby clothes, as their babies were quickly growing. Every two months, caregivers received hygiene kits containing items such as diapers, baby soap, wet wipes, cottom swabs, shampoo and creams. Each baby was given a baby walker and other toys to encourage their growth and development. Moms were so grateful!
Nutrition: Moms received monthly food baskets to support their children’s growth and nutrition. Thanks to this gift, moms were able to provide their children with nourishing meals and use their income to purchase other necessities. Moms learned proper food hygiene and the importance of providing their children with a varied diet filled with fruits and vegetables.
Income generation: During income generation workshops, moms learned how to sew traditional garments that they can wear or sell to others in the community. Staff also provided moms with thread kits, ensuring each participant would be able to sew at home.
Home visits: Every month, staff visited moms and their families in their homes. Caregivers shared their needs, challenges and joys and staff offered spiritual support through prayer and devotionals. Staff also connected with other family members and observed family dynamics. Sometimes, the pastor also visited families to offer guidance during difficult situations. Caregivers received personalized lessons on topics like nutrition, childhood development, early stimulation and child protection.
Group meetings: Moms enjoyed participating in group meetings, where they learned lessons on early stimulation exercises for their babies, childhood development, nutrition, hygiene and self-esteem. These meetings allowed a safe space for moms to gain confidence, learn valuable life skills and develop healthy relationships with one another and with staff.

Blessings brothers and sisters. We greet you in the love of the Lord, thanking you for the great support you have given us as a church. The Survival program is a great blessing. Thanks to your support, it has been possible to reach homes with different needs—the greatest need is the need for God in their lives and families. We have been able to share the Word of God and pray for the mothers and they have begun to know the power of God. They have expressed their gratitude, first to God and also to you as donors.
Their lives are blessed in different areas, including the material, physical and spiritual. The hearts of some mothers are being healed and restored by hearing the Word that reaches their homes through the implementer who goes to visit them. There is a change in their attitude, their way of living and even in their thinking. Now, many mothers are also learning to enjoy their stage of motherhood in addition to the knowledge they learn in their meetings and the gifts that reach their hands, since many of them do not have the support of a husband. But through you, their lives are blessed and they can move forward.
We thank God very much for the life of each one of you and ask that He bless you every day. We give thanks again for all your support, on behalf of the Belén Church of Santa Ana Tzacuala, in the State of Hidalgo, and on behalf of all the moms and the Survival team. Your support is very helpful and has blessed everyone, especially the little participants.
I say goodbye, wishing that the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with everyone, amen.
Sincerely,
ReportA message from those your gift helped
My name is Nimbeth. I am Zuri’s mother, who is enrolled in the Survival program. My family and I live in Santa Ana Tzacuala, Hidalgo. It is a very cold community and full of flowers.
I entered the program while still pregnant. Since then, the staff have helped me a lot through home visits by the implementer and gifts like the tub to bathe my baby, her first clothes, blankets, a diaper bag, hygiene kit, food pantries, etc.
I want to thank you for all the support we have received from you. I feel very happy because thanks to you, my daughter does not need anything. The support that you give us is very helpful. All the classes have helped me to a lot to take good care of my baby.
Before the program, there were many things that I did not know. I was unaware but the implementer helps to clarify our doubts, gives us advice and treats us and our babies with love and patience.
What I am experiencing with my daughter fills me with joy and I wish that many other mothers could also enjoy the support that they have given us.
Thank you very much for everything. May God multiply and bless you.
With love,

My name is Teresa and I am a partnership facilitator in charge of the ME0995 centre “The Good Samaritan” in the community of Santa Ana Tzacuala, Hidalgo.
The Survival program at the Belen Church has provided an environment for mothers and babies to have better opportunities and improved quality of life, since living in a rural community, they did not have the necessary medical services or care.
Before the program arrived, pregnant moms were not attended to. However, with the arrival of the Survival program at the church, mothers now have access to two medical checkups a year. This has been a great blessing and has been able to open the door to reach families, share with them the Word of God and teach them how to care for their babies.
We see each mom smile when they receive a hygiene kit, a gift or a food pantry and when they attend class. Some moms attend classes and when they do, they have told us that they are happy with the group meetings because it helps them to get to know other moms and other babies.
Through the program, we hope that the moms will have the opportunity to improve their health and quality of life by learning an income-generating skill at the church facilities. What has been strengthened are the embroidery workshops; the program has provided them with materials they need so that they can embroider and sell traditional embroidery in their community.
The families are grateful for the Survival program, which has helped them improve their quality of life. Another factor the church has identified and is working on is reducing violence that exists in families, infidelity in marriage and the percieved low value of women. These have been very strong issues in the community and must be spoken about carefully, so we ask for your prayers for God to penetrate the hearts of the men of this community and the mothers themselves so that they do not encourage sexism in their homes.
There is still much to do but we are confident that we are on the right track. We are very grateful to the sponsors for this great blessing. May God continue to bless you in health and economy.
With appreciation,
