Children, churches, caregivers, communities and you…
This is the vibrant neighbourhood of Jesus-followers working together to see children free from poverty and thriving as they were meant to!
Woven together by our unique threads — our faith, gifts, hopes, prayers and efforts — we form a unique global tapestry with a story of hope to tell.
The vibrant pictures you see on this blog and beyond represent this tapestry the best way we know how: through the eyes of a child. Their drawings represent their dreams, their communities and their lives as they are now and as they dream of them being.
Together, they form unique tapestries representing the places these children call home and the regions we partner with: Asia, Africa, South America, Central America and the Caribbean.
Each tapestry is a celebration of childhood itself. Each is a rally cry to take a step forward into a life of joy, resilience and possibility in Jesus’ name.
Let’s take a closer look at how these beautiful illustrations came to be!
From a child’s hands to a designed illustration
We invited children in Compassion programs around the world to draw their lives, hopes and neighbourhoods through creative workshops. What happened next was incredible:
Over 5,000 drawings, each one alive with colour, creativity and story.
You see, these pictures aren’t just sketches. They are real, raw expressions of childhood. Joyful, bold, playful — sometimes messy and always meaningful.
With love and care, our designers began to translate these artworks into a new global illustration library. This new collection of artworks was shaped by children, for children and with children.
And now?
We get the joy of sharing them with you!
Illustrations shaped by the children we serve
The illustrations that emerged from our creative workshops were more than a design system—they were a celebration of childhood itself.
Each illustration is rooted in the real-life creativity of children in Compassion’s global neighbourhood. Together, they form a vibrant tapestry of joy, resilience and possibility.
And as our brand continues to grow and evolve, this illustration library will grow too, reflecting the diversity, culture and dreams of children across the globe.
What does using children’s artwork accomplish?
By incorporating children’s artwork into the way we communicate at Compassion, we’re accomplishing four amazing things:
1. Child agency: Children don’t just receive care at Compassion. They actively contribute to our shared story.
2. Authenticity: These drawings aren’t a detached idea of what Compassion children might experience. They give us a real look at the Compassion neighbourhood through the eyes of the children we serve!
3. Diversity: Each drawing represents the rich cultural beauty and uniqueness of our global neighbourhood. What a gift it is to celebrate this richness!
4. Connection: Seeing a child’s art reminds us that compassion isn’t abstract — it’s personal, relational and shared.
An invitation to move with childlike faith and creativity
Children are amazing, aren’t they?
The way children see the world is full of wonder and hope. By honouring and showcasing their drawings, we’re reminded to notice beauty, to imagine boldly and to hold onto the hope of Jesus.
That’s what this design approach is really about: moving with compassion means moving with childlike faith and creativity. It means listening to children and learning from them.
So, neighbour, when you see a Compassion illustration — whether in a story, an email or a campaign — remember that you’re not just seeing a piece of design.
You’re seeing a child’s perspective, a glimpse of their neighbourhood, and a small but mighty spark of transformation.
It’s just one of the ways we honour the children we serve and invite our supporters into their world. Because at the heart of Compassion’s mission is a global neighbourhood being transformed — one drawing, one story, one life at a time.
Our prayer, dear neighbour, is that these tapestries remind you that the child you sponsor doesn’t just receive care; they actively contribute to your shared story. We pray they will inspire you too, as you move through the world with compassion, childlike faith and intentional creativity.
