To graduate from Compassion’s Child Sponsorship Program, sponsored children need to have at least completed primary school, a vocational training course and possibly secondary education as well. The expected age at which children may complete the program varies from country to country depending on the education system, but will be between 18 years and 22 years. A child may leave the program earlier if their family moves from the area, or if the home situation improves, or if the family chooses to withdraw their child from the program. Every teenager with Compassion has a plan for their future, including their likely date for finishing the program. You are welcome to write to your older sponsored child asking about what is contained in their copy of ‘My Plan for Tomorrow’.View Original Post
Your relationship with your sponsored child is very valuable. Not only does he or she receive the financial assistance so desperately needed, but the ongoing emotional support through your letters and prayers play a vital role in the holistic development of your sponsored child. Unfortunately circumstances can change and, despite the various options that Compassion has available to assist you, sometimes you can just no longer continue to support a sponsored child.
When a sponsored child loses a sponsor, Compassion tries to find another person willing to take on the support of that child through sponsorship. However, this can take several months. During this time the child continues to receive all the benefits of the program, except sponsor letters, birthday, and family gifts. The child development centre receives a reduction in the amount of per child monthly funding according to the number of unsponsored and registered children at any one time. If less than 80 per cent of the children at a child development centre are sponsored, Compassion makes additional contributions from the Unsponsored Children’s Fund in order to bring funding for that month back to 80 per cent. If there are too many unsponsored children at any one centre, then Compassion may be forced to decrease new child registration quotas.
