This is the day. Not tomorrow. Not someday. Today is the day God has made.

In a world rushing toward what’s next—the next goal, the next upgrade—we often miss what God is doing right now. But His Word reminds us: today is full of His promises, His presence and His opportunities for restoration.

In Psalm 118:24, David gives us an invitation that flies in the face of the world’s restlessness:

“This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (English Standard Version)

This is the day. God has made this day.

The psalmist says nothing of what tomorrow might bring—rather, he calls us to rejoice in what God is doing today. His promises are for today and He is moving in this very moment.

If we pause to take inventory of all that God is doing around us, we’ll see why we should join Him in bringing restoration to the world right now.

Why this day?

Three mothers are standing at a table making pieces of pottery.

Psalm 118 is a resounding anthem where the psalmist celebrates God’s faithfulness. He has seen God transform brokenness—turning rejection into restoration, defeat into victory:

“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the LORD has done this, and it is marvellous in our eyes.” (v. 22-23)

So, when the psalmist tells us, “This is the day that the LORD has made,” we recognize that today is an opportunity to see what the psalmist has seen: the faithfulness of God as He moves and brings about transformation.

And because God has made this day—the Hebrew word asah is the same one used in Genesis when God creates—we can be assured that He is not sitting on His hands but actively carrying out His good plans and purposes.

That means today isn’t ordinary. Today, this day, is God’s invitation to join Him in restoration, moving as He moves. The question isn’t if we should move today—it’s how.

What does God’s work look like on this day?

A young child smiles while making a heart with her hands.

Knowing that God made this day is just the start. This is the day to step in alongside Him.

Jesus gives us a look into the heart of God toward us in Matthew 25:40:

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

God’s heart is for all of humanity, reaching even those who are overlooked—“the least of these.” When we serve children living in poverty, families without food and communities struggling for clean water, we not only align our actions with God’s heart but also encounter Him in the least of these.

Picture a child holding a cup of clean water for the first time, or a family sharing a meal they didn’t know would come—that’s what God’s heart looks like in action.

A young boy enjoys a cold drink in a red cup.

To move with compassion as God does also means doing good every chance we get:

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people…” (Galatians 6:10).

On this day, “as we have opportunity”, we’re called not to pass up any chance God opens for us to move with Him—doing good so that all might experience restoration.

This is faith in action. God has already moved first to bring restoration—and at Compassion, we desire to step into how He is restoring hope for children in poverty through the local church.

How Compassion is moving on this day

At Compassion, we believe God is already moving—and we want to join Him. We long to see children released from poverty because it’s in God’s nature to heal the suffering and provide for those who are vulnerable. As God’s people, it’s only natural to see the need, feel what God feels and move compassionately.

A pastor holds out a Bible, reading from it with a group of children standing next to him.

Local churches lead this work. They are uniquely positioned to understand the needs of their communities and use our God-given generosity to meet those needs. Whether it’s education, health, food, clean water or other pressing needs, God has and will continue to work through His Church and supporters like you to transform lives.

What is one simple way to join the movement God has already begun?

Gifts of Compassion are a way to step into God’s work today, bringing hope and love to children and families living in poverty. Each gift—whether it provides food, scholarships, healthcare or clean water—reflects God’s heart and opens a door for transformation.

Pick a gift that moves your heart with compassion and be part of God’s story of restoration today.

A group of smiling children have their arms around each other.

Lord, thank You for making this day and filling it with opportunities for us to move with YouToday is the day to move with compassion—give us hearts like Yours so that we would move and bring Your restorative work to those who need it most. Amen.

This is the day to move with compassion.

What will you do to bring hope to a child today?
