Child sponsorship provides a holistic development program for individual children; however Compassion acknowledges that external circumstances can have a significant impact in preventing a child from reaching his or her potential. Because Compassion does not use sponsorship funds for community development activities, Sponsorship Plus provides the perfect opportunity for supporters to not only sponsor a child, but also to sow into additional programs and initiatives that combine with the benefits of child sponsorship to break the poverty cycle.
Sponsorship Plus is an extra $10 a month in addition to Basic Sponsorship.

Funds raised from the Gifts of Compassion catalogue are used to support Compassion’s Response Programs. Should excess funds be raised in a particular area, we will meet other urgent needs as they arise.View Original Post
Can I choose or trace which family or country my Gifts of Compassion gift goes to in the developing world?
The gifts shown in the Gifts of Compassion catalogue are linked to specific initiatives being supported through our Respond with Compassion programs. While we will not be able to name the individual or family that benefits from your donation, we will be reporting on all these initiatives as they are completed at the field.View Original Post

Compassion believes that poverty is best addressed through the transformation of the individual child. Compassion is delighted to help you send special gifts to your sponsored child. We do not mail packages, because parcel delivery in developing countries is unreliable and expensive. Instead, we encourage you to send a monetary gift to your child to purchase an appropriate gift locally. You can also send monetary gifts for a specific family or project. Gifts for your child can mark special occasions such as birthdays and graduation. Most children write to thank their sponsors and say what they have purchased. Compassion Canada forwards 100 percent of the sum you donate to the child, family or project you designate. If you have a specific gift in mind, you can mention it to us and we will pass your suggestion along. Local project staff assist children and their families to ensure that funds are used appropriately.
You can also help by supporting Respond with Compassion programs. These programs address issues that our Child Development program alone cannot, such as providing disaster relief, AIDS intervention, clean water and more. These programs are funded separately from the Child Development program. You can do this by adding a monthly donation to Sponsorship Plus. Please contact our office to do so. You can also donate to a Respond wth Compassion program online.

While we most often seek funds that enable us to respond to the urgent needs of our children, we also seek funding to offset the cost of our core programs. By raising money to offset the cost of core programs (like dental check-ups), the monthly support given by our sponsors can do more for the children we serve.View Original Post
Gifts that you can send to your sponsored child are different from Gifts of Compassion.
While it is highly likely that your sponsored child will benefit from a Gifts of Compassion throughout their time in the sponsorship program, you cannot choose to provide a direct gift for your child in this way.
Gifts for your sponsored child include child, family gift, or birthday gift. 100 per cent of these monetary gifts reach your sponsored child and family. Appropriate gifts are purchased in your child’s country by child development centre staff in consultation with the child and family. Where possible, gifts are bought within the community helping to support the local economy.View Original Post
No less than 80 percent of your monthly support benefits your child, either directly or indirectly. Compassion-assisted children and their families receive no cash. Benefits are in the form of goods and services, carefully designed, delivered and purchased according to each child’s individual needs.
As a general rule, 20 percent of these funds are invested in the development, oversight, and auditing of Compassion’s programs in which every assisted-child participates. These investments ensure that each child receives the best care possible, rather than becoming the recipient of a handout.
The remaining funds are used to meet the day-to-day needs of each child. This can include:
nutritional meals and the provision of clean drinking water;
medical and dental check-ups, care and education;
educational supplies and tuition fees;
clothing including school uniforms;
non-formal educational and life-skills training such as participation in excursions and camps;
extra-curricular activities such as drama, dance, music and art etc.; and
biblical training and discipleship
Our local church partners also invest considerable resources in the development of each child, allowing Compassion and the church to help bring an eternal solution to poverty in the life of a child.View Original Post

Our preference would be if each individual would send in a cheque or give a one time credit card donation for the amount that they will be covering of the sponsorship. This is the best way to then ensure that we are able to send out an income tax receipt in the correct amount to each person with the least amount of administration on either end.View Original Post

Donations can be made by pre-authorized withdrawal (bank account or credit card), internet banking, telephone banking, Interac online, cheque or money order. These withdrawals can be made monthly or annually. Pre-authorized donations are safe, easy and convenient. Pre-authorized withdrawal from your bank account is our preferred method of payment, as it saves Compassion hundreds of thousands of dollars each year in transaction fees. Automatic withdrawals can be setup through our website by completing the Update Your Information form or by calling our office. Cheques made out to Compassion Canada will be accepted, as will money orders. Unfortunately deposits can not be made directly into Compassion’s bank account.
